Skills for a New Economy: A paradigm shift in education and learning to ensure future economic success

The Government must ensure that education and training are designed for future needs and not merely to remedy current shortages.

A significant consensus is developing in Britain. In politics, business and civil society, there is a growing recognition that we need to create what the Aldersgate Group calls the “new economy”, in which top quality design, sustainable production and long term resource efficiency are more important than high levels of consumption and short term profits.

This interim report is the first attempt to describe the transformation that will be necessary for our education and training systems to accompany and support this transition of the British economy.
