Aldersgate Group announces its COP27 events programme

Today the Aldersgate Group announces a new series of virtual events set to take place during COP27. These discussions with climate and environmental experts from business and civil society will reflect on the summit in Sharm El-Sheikh and outline what outcomes are critical in sectors from food to energy in order to remain on track for the 1.5C target in the Paris Agreement. Find out more on all the new events below. Full details are available in the events section of our website.

COP Conversations: Delivering sustainable low-carbon agriculture in a changing climate
Date: Friday 11 November, 9.30am – 10.30am
This webinar will focus on the crucial role of the agriculture and food sectors in addressing climate change – exploring how international targets, standards and policies decided at COP27 can help businesses decarbonise complex food supply chains and account for a turbulent natural landscape as global temperatures rise. We’ll be joined by Angela Francis, Director of Policy Solutions at WWF and Anna Turrell, Sustainability Director at Tesco with further speakers to be confirmed soon. COP Conversations: Nature’s fundamental role in addressing the climate crisis
Date: Wednesday 16 November, 2pm – 3pm
This discussion will explore the critical nexus between climate action and the restoration of the natural world – exploring the important role of nature-based solutions and protecting biodiversity in ultimately delivering a sustainable net zero future. Looking ahead to CBD COP15, the global biodiversity summit in December, this panel of expert business and NGO speakers will focus on the role of nature from a specific climate lens at COP27 and its invaluable role in decarbonisation. The event will also consider how COP27 can help lay the foundation for further action at CBD. We’ll be joined by James Alexander, Chair and Executive Director of Finance Earth, with further speakers to be confirmed soon. Click here to register and secure your place.

COP Conversations: Addressing the twin crises – decarbonising energy and industry across the world
Date: Thursday 17 November, 9.30am – 10.30am
This event will discuss how to deliver a low-carbon energy system that reduces costs for energy-intensive industrial users in the face of an ongoing fossil fuel price crisis. The high cost of gas means that there is no better time to invest in the renewable energy required for the planet to reach net zero by 2050. The event will feature key energy players and industrial business stakeholders who will outline what they need from COP27 to deliver a low-carbon and cost-effective future, while also creating jobs. We’ll be joined by Wafa Jafri, Partner and UK co-lead of Energy and Natural Resources Strategy at KPMG and Richard Crossick, Public Affairs Manager at Orsted, with further speakers to be confirmed soon.
