Ready to Move: A framework for decarbonising UK HGVs

Aldersgate Group and the Renewable Energy Association (REA) publish ‘Ready to Move: a framework for decarbonising UK HGVs’. The report finds that while electric trucks are already operating successfully in commercial fleets, wider adoption is being slowed by expensive and lengthy grid connections, high electricity costs and challenges accessing affordable finance.

Drawing on evidence from businesses across the freight and energy sectors, the report calls for a coordinated government transition plan focused on three priorities:

  • Providing long-term policy certainty,
  • Reducing financial risks for operators and investors, and
  • Planning grid and charging infrastructure ahead of demand.

With freight responsible for a significant share of UK transport emissions and zero-emission HGV uptake still low, the report argues that targeted action by government can unlock investment, strengthen supply chain resilience and support the decarbonisation of one of the economy’s most vital sectors.
