Rachel Solomon Williams speaks with Alexis Conran on the importance of the Climate Change Act
In her early October interview with Alexis Conran on Times Radio, Rachel Solomon Williams, Executive Director of the Aldersgate Group, responded to political proposals to repeal the Climate Change Act. She emphasised that:
- The Act has provided long-term policy stability, enabling businesses to invest confidently in low-carbon innovation and infrastructure.
 - It does not impose specific requirements on consumers, nor dictate how targets must be met—allowing flexibility in implementation.
 - Repealing the Act would damage the UK’s reputation as a reliable place to do business, especially during economic uncertainty.
 - She stressed that climate change remains a real and present threat to communities, nature, and the economy, and that dismantling the legislative framework would be a step backwards, and that the public is highly supportive of work to combat climate change.
