A net zero emissions target backed by accelerated innovation support can deliver significant economic and industrial growth opportunities for the UK. However, the UK is not on track to meet its current climate targets, and innovation cycles are generally several decades long. Introducing a net zero emissions target will therefore require the UK to act with greater haste, while supporting innovation deployment in hard-to-decarbonise areas.
Ahead of the Committee on Climate Change’s advice on increasing the UK’s climate ambition, this event marks the launch of two new landmark reports:
Zeroing in: capturing the opportunities from a UK net zero emissions target, from the Aldersgate Group
Accelerating innovation to meet net zero, from Vivid Economics and UKERC, commissioned by the Aldersgate Group
These two complementary reports set out key policy recommendations on accelerating innovation to meet a net zero target, and how to maximise the opportunities for the UK in doing so. With contributions from leading businesses, this event will consider what policy measures are needed to support industry in delivering net zero.
