With transport now the largest emitting sector of the UK economy, cutting surface transport emissions is essential to delivering the UK’s climate targets. Decarbonising surface transport could also provide significant environmental, social and economic opportunities for the UK, with the global market for cleaner transport growing to over £2tn per year by 2030. With contributions from leading UK businesses, this event will mark the launch of a new report from the Aldersgate Group, Shifting emissions into reverse gear: priorities for decarbonising transport, which sets out key policy recommendations to significantly reduce surface transport emissions. Panellists will explore how government can support rapid decarbonisation of the sector, including through more efficient infrastructure planning, accelerating the manufacture and take-up of cleaner, more resource-efficient vehicles and promoting innovation deployment.
