21st December 2010
Green Investment Bank Summit

In November, the Aldersgate Group (AG) hosted a Summit on the Green Investment Bank with Martin Donnelly, the BIS Permanent Secretary and representatives from HSBC, Goldman Sachs, Centrica and Bank of America Merrill Lynch. To read a full event summary, click here. To watch the new video, click here.

The AG also published a new report, Financing the Future, and a GIB Joint Statement with Transform UK that outlines recommendations in terms of scope, capitalisation and remit that the GIB should address.

Mandatory carbon reporting

In October the AG hosted a parliamentary policy debate where stakeholders debated the Future of Narrative Reporting consultation. The panel was in full agreement that carbon reporting should be mandatory for businesses and discussed how long-term systemic risks should be reported in a more transparent way. To watch the video, click here.

In November, two AG members, WWF and The Co-operative Group, wrote an open letter Caroline Spelman (Secretary of State for Defra) which was published in the Financial Times. The letter was supported by the Aldersgate Group and many AG members also signed individually (click here). In December, Defra published its review on "The contribution that reporting of greenhouse gas emissions makes to the UK meeting its climate change objectives" (click here to read).
