The Circular Economy Package published in December 2015 by the EU Commission sends an important signal about Europe's objective of becoming a far more resource efficient economy, with potentially significant environmental and economic benefits.
The Commission estimates that the measures could deliver annual net savings of €600bn or 8% of annual turnover for businesses in the EU by 2030 and reduce total annual greenhouse gas emissions by 2-4%.
As the Commission calls on the European Parliament and Council to adopt and implement the Package's proposals, the Aldersgate Group hosted a debate to explore the progress achieved by the latest draft, the implications for the UK business community and where the package could be made stronger.
This event forms part of the ongoing work that the Aldersgate Group is conducting through the Alliance for Circular Economy Solutions.
